A Note from the Editor
By Jonathan Bardelline
Unless you've been in Antarctica or holed up in a cave somewhere, you're probably aware that Earth Day is right around the corner. How could you not notice, with the heaping piles of Earth Day-themed announcements from companies touting their new products or using the day to promote what they've already got on the market?
But, as we regularly show here on GreenerDesign.com, companies are making improvements to their products and packaging year round. Why wait for Earth Day when reducing material use, eliminating a chemical or switching to recycled content can start helping your business, and the environment, right away?
In about a month you'll be able to hear from innovators and long-time leaders in the world of green design at our 2009 Greener by Design conference, May 19-20 in San Francisco.
We've been talking with some of the speakers who'll be at the event, and you can now check out our interviews with William McDonough, Tom Szaky, Terry Swack and Wendy Jedlicka.
Lastly, we want to alert all our readers to our ongoing Steelcase Sustainable Design Scholarships -- four full scholarships to Greener by Design conference, including airfare and hotel, in partnership with Net Impact.
There's still time to enter, and the process is easy -- submit a short essay by way of GreenBiz.com or NetImpact.org, and spread the word to others you know who may be interested. And thanks to our friends at Steelcase, the global manufacturer of office furnishings, for making this possible.

|
By Jonathan Bardelline
|
Although bisphenol A (BPA) is not the clear health threat lead is, enough concern about it has been raised for retailers and manufacturers to eliminate it and for politicians to seek BPA bans. But BPA is not the only possibly dangerous chemical used in consumer products. What draws public outcry and bans for one toxic chemical, while others slip safely under the radar?... Read More
