Plastic That's Not Only Recyclable, But Recycled

By Jonathan Bardelline

Packaging items in recyclable materials isn't anything new, but packaging those same items in recycled materials is. Naked Juice and Earthbound Farm are two companies that have recently introduced packaging made completely of recycled plastic, and they are some of the first food and drink companies to do so.

And what goes into products deserves just as much attention as what goes into their packaging, and this month has also seen the introduction of new bags made from billboards, news of the Better Cotton Initiative's plan to grow more sustainable cotton throughout the world, and the release of a Greenpeace report calling out companies whose supply chains have contributed to the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.

As companies strive to increase the sustainability of their wares, many turn to bamboo to make products as diverse as shirts, bedding and kitchenware. But all the attention and demand bamboo has seen could damage it in the long term. Check out our feature on BooShoot Gardens to find out more on that company's efforts to clone bamboo plants and keep bamboo's diverse species alive.
