VERGE

By Derek Top, Senior Editor, Program Director - VERGE

This week, we hear from U.S. Green Building Council president Rick Fedrizzi, who discusses the promise of transparent data systems to optimize building performance, and from Accenture's Marty Newhouse on how data-analytics strategies may not always be straightforward -- but do offer building owners a new way to reap savings in energy management and improve their environmental performance.

Also, in a One Great Idea video, Josh Usher from REV Technologies shows how electric vehicles can help manage the load to support the electrical grid. A smart-city initiative from SAP addresses the challenges urban centers face when tackling sustainability issues.

Elsewhere, Gizmag checks out a convoy of autonomous vehicles from Volvo driving in a “road train” on a public highway outside Barcelona, Spain, as part of the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) project. And engineers explore the idea of turning windows into solar-power producers, but questions remain about cost and how efficiently the technology can be widely adopted, according to 360 Yale Environment.
