Print This! What Paperless Society?
Great report.
Without incentives, both private and public companies will continue to waste paper at ridiculously high levels.
I've created incentive programs for companies to try to reduce paper waste, and it takes constant reinforcement -- as well as calling out those that do not participate, to really make a difference.
Contests are fun and important -- as are weekly mementos, such as recycled imprinted water bottles, tote bags, etc.--that help to reinforce the program's message.
Unless paper usage is monitored, people will always print out paper "for safe keeping".
At my previous employer, we also stressed using black and white draft mode for all internal reports and for most printing needs.
Invoices went paperless. Checking went paperless. Filing went onto servers, after classes were held on proper filing procedures. No more printing out paper--"just in case". Overall paper usage was cut by 38%.
What is your company doing to promote paper use reduction?
