Renewable Energy Certificates: an easy way to be green

This article hits at one of the toughest obstacles of the green movement—people think they can’t make a difference. When “how to be green” lists are full of a hundred different options, I wander if people would live greener lifestyles if only given five options. The myriad of lists and the lack of priority can become overwhelming for anyone.

I completely sympathize with those striving to be green yet feel a little bit helpless in their efforts. But you don’t have to install expensive solar panels on your roof to be green; there are alternative ways to obtain clean energy. I work at Village Green Energy, an SF-based new company that allows people to supply their households or businesses with renewable energy, through the affordable purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). A better explanation of these certificates is available on our website (along with a video and slideshow explanation!) www.villagegreenenergy.com, but RECs are essentially an inexpensive and reliable way of sourcing your energy through your same utility, but from renewable generators: solar, wind, geothermic, ect.

We see our sale of RECs as helping normal people along the path to be green. If RECs aren’t for you, our website will include other helpful tips on keeping our planet healthy.
