Pulling the Plug on Phantom Power

But ... (and this is an ENORMOUS "but"! ) ... this "standby power" generated heat is ONLY "waste heat" if you are not heating you world with some other source, otherwise it is contributing heat that is reducing your space-heating requirements, and in our region (Pacific Northwest) this is the situation at least 8+ months per year.

I would be more interested in a discussion of the EMF/RFI from these myriad power supplies than the heat they make. Every one of them radiates a lot more than heat.

I want to see an image of the spectrum of the energy radiated by the wallwarts and compare it what is produced when devices are connected to this "green" powerstrip.

This is a genuine issue, because it will almost certainly contain a "switch-mode" power supply, which (in an effort to reduce the quantity of expensive material involved in the transformers and the shields) invariably radiate a significant amount of energy and in some cases, the wiring they are plugged into broadcasts it as a nasty kind of EMF pollution.

We see standby power

Great article! We perform energy evaluations for residential and small commercial clients here in Cincinnati, Ohio. We utilize the latest technology in thermal imaging which allows us to see heat gain and heat loss. In every property we find stand by power glowing red in our thermal camera site.
