The Selling of Earth Day 2009: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Green marketing on Earth Day

Thanks for this informative post about the positive actions companies are taking to promote Earth Day. I think the best thing a company can do is to encourage its employees to do something positve for the Earth on Earth Day - just as TAC is doing by planting trees at client locations.

I'm a marketing consultant and a green blogger, so I see both sides of the issue - and I see all the horrible PR pitches coming into my blog url. I give you credit for weeding through the hundreds if not thousands of bad pitches to come up with some inspiring examples of positive corporate action.

You really avoided calling out the many, many examples of greenwashing I'm sure you saw. Those "bad apples" make it more difficult for those companies offering sustainable products to get consumers to believe their claims. Greenwashing makes it that much harder for a legitimate green business person to be taken seriously.

Silencing Earth Day Critics

Although there are an abundance of questionable Green offerings, critics of Earth Day are missing the point.

Happy Earth Day

Great Post Tilde

This some very excellent commentary. I think that business have a responsibility to practice CSR and consumers should demand it from them. Otherwise, corporations will ignore what I believe to part of their duty as good companies. Teaching children about being green is very important to creating a culture and society that respects nature, it is the only long-term solution. Earth Day should be everyday, it is good that there is at least one day to spread awareness.

Good to know

This information is very valuable to analyze the real impact of our 'sustainable' practices.
