Map of Green Job Training Programs
You need to take another look at this map. You've got the Sustainable South Bronx program located in upstate NY, near Syracuse. Last time I checked, the Bronx was uptown but not that far uptown.
The wonders of technology...
ZeeMaps is still clearly a work in progress; I moved the Sustainable South Bronx back to its rightful place. Thanks for the catch.
Perception vs Reality
As The New Yorker pointed out, there is a lot of TALK and campaigning for green jobs, but if you look closely, the rubber isn't fully meeting the road. We need to do market studies on this and know what is a profitable training and work opportunity. We just don't have a well enough developed market for renewables yet.
Green Jobs, California
While it's all well and good that California young people are getting this training, the massive numbers of laid-off workers (many already with some tech experience, who'd only need a part of the class time that the youngsters get) are wondering where this level of intensive re-training is for OUR demographic? So far, even with the EDD contacts, there is no evidence of such in-depth programs available, as has been put together for the under-25 group. Hate to mention it, but we already have responsibilities and families to support. We are the ones still trying to pay our taxes, including the property taxes that provide the state with a lot of funding..providing we don't get tossed out of our homes because we can't get work! Also..we vote. So, Governor Schwarzenegger, where are our job re-training programs, since you have "discretion" in the funds allocation?? No..the rubber isn't meeting the road here..not for this group! Rod
