Waste-to-energy (WTE) projects have been popping up everywhere, and now Solargy Systems has announced that it plans to construct a $120 M hybrid solar WTE facility in West Africa.
The company estimates that the new facility will generate over $100 M and create opportunities for even more WTE projects.
Solargy's facility, which will be completed in 2010, will process 1,000 tons of waste per day. Additional facilities are in the works for the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and other parts of Africa.
Despite the economic challenges facing the world, Solargy believes that the timing is right for WTE facilities— upcoming projects will provide the company with several hundred million dollars in revenue.
In an environment where renewable energy projects are being shut down left and right, perhaps WTE is one technology to watch.
