WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Green Building Council has launched a Pilot Credit Library to enable an array of proposed LEED credits to be tested without a wholesale revision of the rating systems.
Being able to introduce proposed new LEED credits and prerequisites through a similar process was of key importance in the development of the current version of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, LEED v3, which was released in April.
"Because innovation doesn't follow a schedule, the ability to introduce new ideas to LEED without waiting for the launch of an entirely new version of the rating systems is critical to the ability of LEED to continue to raise the bar and drive the marketplace toward greater sustainability," the organization said in a bulletin to members on yesterday.
The USGBC went live with the new LEED resource this week and placed six proposed credits on the list to be tested:
Details on each pilot credit are available for download at the Pilot Credit Library.
Project teams who signup to test a pilot credit will not achieve the credit itself for attempts to include the element in their design. But participating teams who submit feedback will receive one Innovation & Design credit, or one Innovation in Operations credit, for their efforts.
