KUTZTOWN, PA — In an effort to address social equity issues in the sustainability movement, the Green Building Foundation has launched with a goal of "bringing the environmental, economic and social advantages of green buildings to those who can least afford them," the new organization says.
In the making for about two years, the emerging nonprofit took off its wraps during the Greenbuild conference last week and declared its mission as being “to restore communities in need through the combined leverage of sustainable buildings and neighborhoods, stewardship, and mission-related investment.”
The foundation seeks to connect philanthropy with programs and partnerships that help support an array of green building projects in the U.S. and abroad.
The foundation has set its sights on helping foster LEED-rated schools and community centers in needy neighborhoods, green affordable housing, energy efficiency retrofits for low-income households, and access to renewable energy, clean water and other resources.
