Using non-biodegradable plastics increases processing and disposal costs, adding up to millions of dollars every year, according the U.S. Composting Council. Aiming to reduce the use of these plastics, the council, along with the International Biodegradable Products Institute, founded the Compostable Logo Program, which certifies and identifies biodegradable plastic products that leave no plastic residue in the finished compost.
Visit this BPIWorld Web site for more information about the program, including: criteria necessary for obtaining a compostable logo certificate, an explanation of the application procedure, frequently asked questions, a list of certified products, and related links. The site also features news and press releases related to biodegradable materials.
