The California Climate Action Registry's Cement Protocols provide GHG emission accounting guidance for entity-wide reporting and certification within the cement sector. An appendix to the registry's General Reporting Protocol, the Cement Reporting Protocol provides focused guidance on calculating emissions associated with the calcination of raw materials to produce clinker, a key component of cement. The protocol's process emissions calculation methodology has been adopted from the Cement CO2 Protocol developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's (WBCSD) Cement Sustainability Initiative.
