Website: The Green Grid

These online tools have been developed by The Green Grid to help data center and facilities managers easily determine how much free outside-air cooling and free evaporative cooling is available for individual data centers.

Using country and city name, the tool allows users in Europe, North America and Japan to input their specific variables -- such as local energy costs, IT load, and facility load -- to determine the energy savings for individual facilities.

One example offered by the group found that a 1-megawatt data center in Luton, England, paying 13.6 cents per kilowatt hour could save €340,000 per year (about US$497,000) using free outside-air cooling.
