Greenpeace's eighth version of its Guide to Greener Electronics, released in June 2008, provides increased scrutiny of the environmental records of the world's 18 largest electronics companies.

In addition to tweaking previous chemicals and e-waste criteria, Greenpeace added a number of energy criteria for this version of the guide, looking at if companies have greenhouse gas reduction plans and are making energy efficient products.

The guide is based on information the companies make publicly available in the interest of encouraging transparency, according to Greenpeace. The full report details how each company's policies or practices compare to each criteria.
