Vodia Ventures Co-Founder and Managing Director Julianne Zimmerman is an avid member and supporter of the entrepreneurial community, with over twenty years of experience guiding technology-based companies to deliver novel value propositions in the US and abroad. She has provided strategic guidance to companies in diverse sectors, including medical devices, telecom, transaction services, education, mobile diagnostics, and defense. She volunteers as a mentor with the MIT Venture Mentoring Service, as a judge for the FIRST Robotics Boston Regional Finals, and as Co-Chair of the Innovation Series Committee of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge.
Julianne previously served as Vice President of Communications at General Compression, a utility-scale energy storage company, and prior to that was a co-founder and the Director of Business Development of GreenFuel Technologies Corporation, an algae biofuel company. She also served as Vice President of Engineering at Ovation Products, a water purification company. Prior to entering cleantech, Julianne had a 14-year tenure as a senior staff member at Payload Systems Inc., a boutique engineering services firm in the manned spaceflight sector. There she and her colleagues set several domestic and international “firsts” while maintaining an unprecedented record of success in developing and flying groundbreaking experiments on the Space Shuttle, Mir Space Station, and International Space Station.
Julianne earned Bachelor’s degrees from MIT in Aeronautical / Astronautical Engineering and in Literature / Humanities, and an MS from the University of Maryland in Aerospace Engineering. She completed an executive certificate in Sustainability Management from the Presidio Graduate School.
