Social Media in Employee Environmental and Sustainability Education Programs

Participants will hear discussion on the findings of the report and how Brighter Planet implemented changes based on the report findings. Participants will learn:

  • How social media helps to inform companies by highlighting factors which contribute to successful programs
  • What social media is, how critical upper-level commitment is and how conversations and user-content generation rather than one-way monologue is critical to its success
  • How programs that encourage social media are twice as likely to be “very effective” and social media is the most effective way to communicate to employees
  • How employee engagement has a payback in retention and growth rates (programs directly relate to a company’s bottom line)
  • Social media allows for unobtrusive frequent communication and permits employees to self-organize around the issue at hand (for example, green teams)
