BIFMA Certifies Scores of Products from Steelcase, Herman Miller, Other Furniture Giants

Launched last June, the Level sustainability standards program of the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer's Association has certified more than 200 products.

The roster of products that have attained certification include goods manufactured by Allsteel, Gunlocke, Herman Miller, HON Company, Kimball Office, National Office Furniture and Steelcase.

In other progress, BIFMA has now licensed six organizations to certify products to Level standards. The six are UL Environment, Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), NSF International, LGA, Intertek and Bureau Veritas.

The BIFMA Level certification program calls for products to be reviewed for material utilization, energy and atmosphere impacts, human and ecosystem health and social responsibility.

The program for third-party product review can result in certification at one of three rankings ranging from level 1 to level 3, the highest.
