This engineer prioritizes net-positive technology (25:50)

Tom Chi is a mastermind at rapidly prototyping world-changing innovations, he was a founding member of Google X (now known simply as X). Ahead of his upcoming keynote talk at VERGE 19, Chi spoke with GreenBiz vice president and VERGE executive director Shana Rapport about ecological regeneration and technology that's "net-positive to nature." Here's an interview excerpt.

Why Citi created the chief sustainability officer role (36:13)

Global financial services firm Citi in September officially became the first U.S. bank to add a chief sustainability officer to its C-suite. Valerie Smith, who has led the sustainability strategy for the past 15 years, spoke with GreenBiz co-founder and executive editor Joel Makower about the significance of that decision. "In one sense, this role is completely the same, and in another sense it feels completely different," Smith says, noting that the new role is a reflection of the rising role of sustainability not just within Citi but also among the bank's clients, as well as investors.
