Hotwire to Pay for Half of Customers' Carbon Offset Purchases

It's hard to convince people to purchase carbon offsets in the current economic climate, but Hotwire may have figured out a way to do it. The discount travel site will pay half of its customers' carbon offsets purchased through a new program with Terrapass.

When Hotwire customers make a car rental, hotel, or flight booking, they will be given the option to buy carbon offsets through Terrapass. As a result of Hotwire's contribution towards the offsets, customers pay only $6 for one week of driving, two weeks of a hotel stay, or one domestic flight. Carbon offsets for an international flight will cost only $24.

Money contributed to the Terrapass offsets will support clean energy projects.

TerraPass already works with a variety of clean energy and carbon emissions reduction projects throughout the U.S., including wind power, farm power, and landfill gas capture projects. All TerraPass carbon credits are verified against accepted standards such as VCS or CCAR by independent, third-party verifiers.
