InterfaceFLOR's Thailand Facility Certified to Sustainable Carpet Standard
Modular carpet maker InterfaceFLOR's Thailand manufacturing facility has received certification to a sustainable carpet standard.
The company's facility in Chonburi, Thailand, is the first manufacturing facility outside of North America to be certified to the NSF/ANSI 140: Sustainable Carpet standard.
The standard was developed by NSF International (NSF) for the American National Standard Institute (ANSI). Recipients can receive silver, gold or platinum certification. InterfaceFLOR's Thailand facility received silver certification.
The company received the certification for both its GlasBac and GlasBacRE products manufactured in Thailand. Both are carpet backing tiles, and the GlasBacRE product contains up to 50 percent recycled content from reclaimed carpeting, and is accepted in InterfaceFLOR's take-back and recycling programs.
All of InterfaceFLOR's products manufactured within North America are already certified to the standard, with products backed by GlasBac or NexStep meeting the gold level and products backed by GlasBacRE meeting the platinum level.
In certifying companies, the standard looks at: Reducing pollutants from manufacturing, minimizing product emissions, reducing energy used in manufacturing, using renewable energy, using recycled raw materials, using biobased raw materials, reclamation and recycling programs, and publicly declaring environmental goals, labor practices, product durability and waste minimization.
