Nike, Gap Among Sustainability Reporting Finalists

Ceres and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants have named the sustainability reports of 21 companies contenders for their seventh awards program.

Ceres and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants have named the sustainability reports of 21 companies contenders for their seventh awards program.

Companies such as Gap Inc., Nike, Dell, and Xerox were among the 21 companies that displayed "exemplary disclosure that placed performance in the broader context of sustainability challenges, risks and opportunities," according to Ceres.

"The Ceres-ACCA awards recognize companies and organizations that report sustainability information in the most complete and credible way," said Ceres President Mindy S. Lubber. "We are looking for organizations which document their key impacts and clearly explain changes in performance, positive or negative, and set a vision and targets for future progress."

Thirteen judges chose the 21 finalists from a field of 87 entrants. The final winners will be announced in April at the Ceres Annual Conference.

The finalists are 3M, Alcan, Alcoa, Baxter International, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dell, Duke Energy, Ford Motor Co., Gap Inc., HP, New Hampshire Ball Bearings (facility report), Nexen, Nike, Potash Corp., Starbucks, Suncor Energy, Teck Cominco, World Bank, Timberland, Weyerhaeuser, and Xerox.
