Oakland to celebrate 'Clean Economy Week' Oct. 15-19
Mayor Libby Schaaf has proclaimed Oct. 15-19 as "Clean Economy Week" in Oakland, as the city prepares to host the upcoming VERGE 18 conference and expo.
Since 2011, the VERGE global event series has uncovered the massive business opportunities at the intersection of technology and sustainability. Over the course of three days, starting Oct. 16, VERGE 18 will convene more than 2,500 cross-sector leaders at the Oakland Convention Center. Attendees will represent some of the world’s largest companies, as well as utilities, city and regional governments, policy makers, NGOs, solution providers and startups.
"As an Oakland-based business, GreenBiz Group is proud to bring VERGE 18 to our hometown," said Pete May, president of GreenBiz Group. "Holding the conference in conjunction with ‘Clean Economy Week’ in Oakland allows us to showcase the city’s leadership role in the transition to a clean and inclusive economy."
Situated in an emerging "green corridor" across the bay from San Francisco and just north of Silicon Valley, Oakland is a logical hub for technological developments that stand to create a clean economy and increase economic and community resilience, equitably and inclusively.
"Oakland is home to a wide array of companies and organizations that are developing clean technologies and policies that promise to improve the sustainability and prosperity of our community," said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. "We're thrilled to be partnering with GreenBiz Group around its VERGE 18 conference and expo to recognize the role that the East Bay can play in furthering a more resilient and equitable economy — both locally and globally."
Several allied organizations will also co-locate their events alongside VERGE 18 during "Clean Economy Week" in Oakland, including Cleantech Open’s Western Region Awards & Innovation Showcase, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Circular Economy 100 Fall Acceleration Workshop and the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance Summit.
