Copper Peak Logistics announced the wine shipping industry's first carbon neutral shipping option earlier this week. The fulfillment and logistics provider will cover the cost of carbon offsets for wine shipments, with customers encouraged to make a voluntary financial contribution.

The company's carbon offsets, which are part of a new carbon-cap-and-trade market in the Northeastern United States, will be purchased from San Francisco-based Village Green Energy.

Village Green will ensure that each 1000 wine shipments has the CO2 equivalent of removing one car from the road for a year.

Wineries that have already signed on to Copper Peak's program include Robert Sinsky Vineyards, PlumpJack Wines, and Venge Vineyards.
