District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility
Catherine Nabukalu is an alumna of the GreenBiz Emerging Leaders program (VERGE, 2017), and a graduate of the Master of Environmental Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. As a Project Coordinator at the District of Columbia’s Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU), she is responsible for liaising between the Engineering and Account Management teams to support technical fixes and attain energy efficiency in buildings and public spaces around the US Capital. She has worked with private businesses to support their international procurement, inventory management and supply chain processes.
Catherine also researches the impact of energy production and demand to the environment, with a focus on the global charcoal supply chain, and explores why charcoal is still a popular energy alternative worldwide even where grid connections are prevalent because of several implications, mainly energy-related forest loss, acute in the sub-Saharan region. She speaks fluent Luganda and understands over 5 other East African Bantu languages.
