Building Deconstruction Institute
Dave Bennink is the founder of the Reuse Innovation Centers, Director of the Building Deconstruction Institute, and owner of Re-Use Consulting. He has existed within the circular economy for over 30 years, and has trained and worked with sustainable groups in 44 states/4 provinces/13 countries, helping start 80 new circular businesses. He has diverted over 100,000,000 pounds from landfills, keeping that material in circulation and avoiding the need to harvest over 10,000 acres of standing forest among other benefits. He focuses on growing the circular economy, embodied carbon/energy, helping lower-income homeowners, ’green-collar’ job creation, historic preservation, and advancing the various material reuse industries throughout North America. He is an expert in building deconstruction, and helps with these efforts throughout North America, including the leading effort in Portland, OR. Long term planning is underway for 6 Reuse Innovation Centers, where these ‘business cooperatives’ salvage, store, market, and sell reclaimed materials, repair items, recycle, and re-manufacture products and even salvage and sell mature landscaping from job sites. His equity efforts with clients revolve around being thankful that women, people of color, and women of color are willing to help him help the community and the planet. His perspective is that they are helping him as much as he is helping them, and that is just a glimpse of what a sustainable future looks like. Finally, Dave Bennink started the ‘Building Deconstruction Institute’ to focus on building the circular economy throughout the world, and to train up the industry to be successful by making a positive impact on communities and the environment.
