Communications Manager, Climate Program
Deirdre Cogan is communications manager for the Climate Program. Deirdre works to provide strategic and creative solutions to drive bold climate action by countries around the world. This includes leading communications around enhancing national climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, and encouraging national governments to better design and adopt long-term strategies and net-zero emission targets.
Before joining WRI, Deirdre worked as senior editor at the Access to Medicine Foundation, a non-profit research organization working to stimulate and guide the pharmaceutical industry to do more for people living in low- and middle-income countries. Deirdre led its multi-team editorial projects, while transforming research insights into change-making tools to influence industry, governments, investors, and the wider general public.
Prior to this role, Deirdre fulfilled a fellowship in Communication and Public Engagement in Science Foundation Ireland, Ireland’s national foundation for investment in scientific and engineering research, where she developed the bases for public engagement, identified best practices for measuring impact and quality and helped bring science into the homes of the Irish public through Ireland’s National Science Festival.
She has completed a Ph.D. in environmental science from Dublin City University, which led to the development of autonomous water quality sensors to provide the Irish public with much-needed environmental data.
Deirdre lives in Amsterdam with her partner, Mark, and dog, Bonnie.
