Chris Ratto Director of Sustainability Chris Ratto is the Director of Sustainability for Albertsons Companies. His retail background enabled him to join the Human Resources Development team at Safeway in 2000 to focus on organizational development, employee engagement and create impactful training programs. In 2005, his Management Training Track curriculum received the Food Marketing Institute’s Excellence in Training Award. In 2008, Ratto was selected to work on Safeway’s sustainability strategy and in 2012 was promoted to Director of Sustainability. In his current role, he works with leaders across the organization to advance company-wide initiatives and goals as well as pursue additional opportunities that support the overarching sustainability strategy and vision. He received his undergraduate degree from California State University East Bay and his Master of Science Degree in Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco. Ratto is the Chair of the Food Marketing Institute’s Sustainability Executive Committee and is a member of the Food Waste Reduction Alliance. He is engaged in the community and serves on an advisory task force for the Oakland Fire Department, community disaster response program. He worked with a committee of sustainability leaders for four years to develop a Sustainability Merit Badge for the Boy Scouts that launched in 2013.
