2015 Executive Sustainability Forum

The 5th annual Waste Management Executive Sustainability Forum attracted the best and brightest in the field of sustainability—both at the podium and in the audience. This year’s theme focused on Energy Evolution: Powering change through innovation, efficiency and technology, where Waste Management led a broader conversation about issues and opportunities with companies, communities and institutions through a lens of sustainability. David Steiner shared, “Our commitment to the environment starts with one question: What If? What if everything could be reused, no longer simply thrown away but productively recaptured for a new use?”

Keynote speakers:

Amory Lovins, Rocky Mountain Institute “A long time ago, fire made us human and then fossil fuels made us modern. But now we need a new fire that makes us safe, secure, healthy and durable.”

Gwen Ruta, Environmental Defense Fund “We need the kind of leadership that both inspires action and produces practical results now. Ask yourself, ‘Am I doing everything I can? What more could I be doing to drive a clean energy future?’”

Future Views speakers

Yalmaz Siddiqui, Office Depot “Find actions and advocate actions that are good for the planet, good for people and good for the economy.”

Gregory Kallenberg, The Rational Middle Energy Series “We have seen the needle move. We have seen people inform themselves and be a part of the solution, to want to be active, whether it is changing a light bulb or changing policy. At the end of the day, we know this is the group that will determine where we are, we want to go, and ultimately how we are going to get there.”

Allen Hershkowitz, Green Sports Alliance “The single most important thing we can do to advance environmental stewardship, to help heal the plant, is to change cultural attitudes and expectations about how we relate to the earth.”
