Where the water meets the rising sun [Short Film Premiere & Panel Discussion]

4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Location:

Room 231 A-B

The Tsay Keh Dene, a culturally Sekani First Nation, have inhabited and stewarded the Rocky Mountain Trench in British Columbia since time immemorial. However, logging and other industrial activities are causing significant ecological damage, affecting their ability to conduct cultural practises across much of their traditional territory. In partnership with Earthworm Foundation, join the Nation for a short film premiere, storytelling and discussion about the Ingenika Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area (IPCA), which holds deep ancestral and cultural importance. This film emphasizes the need to preserve the Ingenika watershed, the importance of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and how companies sourcing pulp and paper products can support Indigenous-led conservation in practice.
