How to be an Environmental Justice Champion

1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Location:

Shedd AB

How can organizations align their operations with principles of environmental justice and equity? How can you be an advocate regardless of your specific role?

Product and packaging design is an environmental justice issue. The decisions that are made before products and packaging reach consumers have both local and global community impacts. Design decisions at the earliest stages determine the long list of social and environmental impacts these materials will generate, from production to end of life. Even if you are not directly responsible for these decisions within the corporate structure, there is an opportunity for you to be a champion for environmental justice and equity, driving positive change one project at a time. In this session, we’ll explore what it takes to foster a culture of environmental justice and equity within organizations, drawing from the U.S. Plastics Pact’s experiences in areas like Louisiana's Cancer Alley. Come to this session to connect with allies and learn why, even if  “environmental justice” or “equity” are not in your job description, you can still create a positive social impact in your role.
