Repairability v. Durability: Building Electronics that Last
Room 501, Chiwawa
How should electronics design balance durability and repairability in pursuit of product life extension, and are these qualities at odds?
In the quest to extend the life of products and materials, repairability and durability are both high-priority strategies. Sometimes, these strategies can seem at odds with each other. Prioritizing durability, for example, by gluing components in a product together may negatively impact the product’s repairability. But both repairability and durability play important, complementary roles in extending the life of products. Responsible product stewardship necessitates holding both strategies in balance. In this session, we'll explore cases from the electronics industry to understand how these strategies should complement each other and how to evaluate the success of both.
