Steven Rothstein

Steven M. Rothstein is the founding Managing Director of the Ceres Accelerator for Sustainable Capital Markets.
The Ceres Accelerator aims to transform the practices and policies that govern capital markets in order to accelerate reduction of the worst financial impacts of the climate crisis and other sustainability threats.
Steven’s 40 years of experience will be critical to explore the most effective strategies for the Accelerator to focus on and move capital markets towards climate sustainability.
He has worked at local, state, federal and international levels of government. Steven served on many non-profit and government boards. He has spoken and written extensively and worked with partners in the corporate, non-profit, government and philanthropy sectors.

Kristen Siemen

Appointed to Chief Sustainability Officer in February 2021, Kristen Siemen helps to lead General Motors to a future with zero emissions as the company continues to take bold actions against climate change, including GM’s commitment to become carbon neutral in its products and operations by 2040. Under Siemen’s leadership, GM has received numerous recognitions including JUST Capital’s MOST JUST Companies, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices Gold Class for corporate sustainability leadership, and Ethisphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies for demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to business integrity.
Siemen is also passionate about promoting inclusion and gender equality. She was instrumental in creating GM’s career reentry program, “Take 2,” serves as GM’s key executive for the Society of Women Engineers and is the co-lead for the GM Women Ally Program. Since transitioning into her role as CSO, Siemen has garnered several individual recognitions for exemplary leadership, most notably including Crain’s Notable Leaders in Sustainability, Future 50 Tech, and Sustainability Mag’s Top 100 Women in Sustainability. Melanie Chow

Melanie Chow is the Vice President of Mission and Sustainability for Danone North America. Melanie and her team lead the company’s strategy and implementation plans to deliver on the Danone Impact Journey – the company’s roadmap for impact across health/nutrition, nature, and people/communities. Melanie’s experience centers on advising mission-driven organizations on delivering their social impact and sustainability goals. Previously, Melanie was at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where she was a Principal and senior leader in BCG’s social impact and sustainability practice in the U.S., U.K. and Middle East North Africa. While at BCG, she provided strategy and management consulting expertise to the world’s largest and most influential Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) teams, Non-Profit Organizations (NGO), foundations, and government aid organizations across a variety of missions aligned to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Melanie has particular expertise in leading cross-functional teams on strategy development, program planning and delivery, and impact measurement. Before BCG, Melanie held corporate strategy and corporate development/M&A roles at Neuberger Berman and Ernst & Young. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from Brown University. Melanie lives in Manhattan and is originally from Westchester, NY. Outside of work, Melanie is on the strategy committee for Hot Bread Kitchen, a non-profit in NYC that creates economic opportunity for immigrant women and women of color through careers in food; the board of the Queens Museum of New York; and the board of the Danone Institute of North America. Lisa Manley is Vice President of Sustainability at Mars, Incorporated where she oversees the Thriving People portfolio of initiatives, which includes respecting human rights, increasing incomes for smallholder farmers and unlocking opportunities for women. Lisa joined Mars in 2017 to refine and help launch the Sustainable in a Generation Plan. Since its launch, she has been focused on building momentum in the Plan through distinct sustainability strategies, dynamic communications, strategic NGO partnerships, diverse stakeholder engagements and visible leadership. Lisa has worked on sustainable business strategy, communications and stakeholder engagement for the past 23 years. She is recognized externally as a leader in sustainability, speaking regularly in stakeholder forums and publishing viewpoints on relevant issues. She’s worked in-house at The Coca-Cola Company in the United States and Europe and served as a consultant to numerous Fortune 100 companies – always focused on integrating social and environmental sustainability into business strategy. Lisa has shaped globally recognized initiatives on climate action, water stewardship, sustainable packaging, diversity & inclusion, and unlocking opportunities for women. The first woman in her family to graduate from college, Lisa holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Virginia. Katheryn Scott

Katheryn Scott is the lead author on two DOE Pathway to Commercial Liftoff Reports on Industrial Decarbonization and Long Duration Energy Storage. She combines her engineering and commercial expertise on the market analysis for the Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Transitions (OTT). Across DOE, Kate focuses on the economic opportunities of deploying clean energy technologies to support decarbonization goals. Her work can be found at liftoff.energy.gov. Prior to joining OTT, Kate worked as consultant at Bain & Company, received a B.S. from MIT in Material Science and Engineering and a M.MSc. in Global Affairs and Policy on a Schwarzman Scholarship in Beijing.

Prior to appointment as the DOE Manufacturing Energy Supply Chain Office as Chief of Staff and elected president of the Hispanic ERG (CALDOE), Zack Valdez worked policy strategy at the Office of Advanced Manufacturing within the National Institutes of Standards and Technology. Dr. Valdez has extensive experience with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math at national non-profits and a technical background in the private energy industry. He is an alumni of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology Policy Fellowship, where he served on the Energy and National Resources Committee of the U.S. Senate.
