Balancing Act: Solutions and Trade-offs to Address the Plastics Problem

9:00 am - 10:00 am
Location:

Grand Canyon 6

What if it were up to you to curb plastic leakage into the environment by at least 80% by 2040? What tradeoffs would you allow, and what priorities would you set? Investigate the solutions that exist to manage the overwhelming amount of plastic ending up in landfills and in nature, and weigh the pros and cons of these solutions to achieve systems change by playing the innovative Plastic Action World Council card game created by rePurpose Global, using real data. Why gamify the global plastic pollution crisis? Leading environmental organizations agree that addressing it requires the reduction of new plastic produced. But while the wheels of policy, activism and corporate action turn to reduce total plastic waste produced, we need solutions that help us manage the crisis now. The Plastic Action World Council game addresses ways to increase the reuse and recycling of plastic already in the system while pursuing solutions that eliminate plastic leaking into nature.
