Nearly half of U.S. states have considered policies that would restrict financial institutions’ ability to consider ESG criteria in their decision-making. But that can’t mask the economic impacts of climate change, nor the enormous opportunity that the transition to a clean and just economy presents.
The Freedom to Invest was launched in March 2023, coordinated by Ceres and the We Mean Business Coalition. Hundreds of private and public sector leaders have since joined together in mobilizing a unified message to policymakers: protect the freedom to invest responsibly. How is the response to the political backlash faring, and what lies ahead?
