Joelle Simonpietri is the program manager for energy research at the University of Hawai’i’s Applied Research Laboratory. She is also a member of the advisory board for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Aviation Sustainability Center and the convenor of the U.S. Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuel Initiative’s regional strategy for Hawaii and tropical and sub-tropical locations. She is a former partner of a Honolulu venture capital fund, plankowner of Waste Management Inc.’s Organic Growth Group, and U.S. Naval officer. She recently completed a four-year assignment from the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Pacific Command for energy innovation and experimentation programs. Ms. Simonpietri holds a Bachelor of Science in neurobiology from Duke University and an MBA in private equity and renewable energy finance from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
