Louise Assem leads the International Copper Association’s (ICA’s) Material Stewardship (MS) program, creating and executing strategies to support copper’s contribution to sustainable development. Through data, the Material Stewardship program demonstrates copper’s impact on the environment and health and copper’s carbon footprint, circularity and social impact. With our members, ICA collaborates with partners and stakeholders to advance best practice in GHG measurement of metal production, life cycle assessment approaches and impact assessment methodologies, and approaches for responsible metals recycling. Louise Chairs the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Lifecycle Management Working Group, and is ICA’s representative on the ICMM Material Stewardship Facility Steering Committee. Louise also Chairs the Non-ferrous working group of the Roundtable for the Responsible Recycling of Metals. More than anything, Louise values people and the natural environment, taking every opportunity to enjoy it in all its forms. Louise has a PhD in Environmental Toxicology and has worked professionally in metals health, environment and sustainability for more 17 years.
