Apple's Lisa Jackson: Renewable energy makes good business sense

Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of environmental initiatives, is helping the tech giant pave a path toward sustainability in an industry that relies on lengthy supply chains and lots of energy.

Speaking with GreenBiz's Joel Makower in this Studio C interview at VERGE 2014 in San Francisco, Jackson said that Apple's initiatives reflect the visions of the company's CEO, Tim Cook. The company is pursuing the use of green energy, greener materials, resource efficiency and better recycling practices, Jackson said. She said that the company sees it as the right thing to do.

"It's also important that we do it in the context of the business reasons for what we do," Jackson said. "It also makes sense for a company that relies on so much energy to invest in renewable energy and controlling its energy future.

"We can make the best products for the world, as well as the best products in the world."
