Based in Sacramento, California, Mike is a sustainability and social impact evangelist, connector and doer with more than a decade of experience writing about and working directly with companies on ESG strategy and storytelling. Believing that business can and must be a force for good, he works tirelessly to engage with other purpose-driven individuals and organizations to bring about a better world. Mike has been a contributor to GreenBiz since 2014, during which time he has written about everything from climate policy and climate tech to the circular economy and sustainable development. Currently heading up client engagement at thinkPARALLAX, a leading ESG strategy and communications agency, he works with major technology, food and apparel clients on ESG strategy, reporting and communication. He also leads the organization's Perspectives speaker series, which brings together corporate sustainability leaders to discuss the most pressing issues of our time. Mike's blog, Hower Impact, focuses on connecting and inspiring current and future ESG professionals to stay the course with their work to create a sustainable future.
Previously, Mike worked as a sustainability communications strategist at Edelman where he worked with The North Face, HP, and Kashi on sustainability storytelling initiatives and civic engagement projects. After spending a year teaching in Bogotá, Colombia for Harvard University’s Worldteach program, he became passionate about the intersection of social and environmental justice in the Global South and currently sits on the board of ViviendasLeón, a nonprofit that empowers and equips communities in Central America to eliminate rural poverty. He also has lobbied for climate policy with the Environmental Defense Fund and is a proud alumni of the EDF Climate Corps. He holds a Masters in Public Affairs from George Washington University and a Bachelors in Political Science and History from the University of California, Davis.
