Online environmental network Care2 and nonprofit consumer organization Co-op America have teamed up to present a Web resource designed to help consumers identify and support socially and environmentally responsible businesses.

Green Pages Online offers an extensive directory of businesses that support sustainable business practices and have met rigorous screens for their social and environmental practices. The new resource makes it easier for consumers to find socially and environmentally responsible products, thus providing a valuable resource for concerned consumers and potential new customers for eco-oriented businesses, the companies say.

The partnership comes at an important time for consumers, when the business practices of many major corporations have been called into question. "At a time when consumers don't know which businesses they can trust, we are very pleased to be offering them the Green Pages Online, which will give them access to thousands of businesses that share their values. These businesses have passed our screens and demonstrated that they have socially and environmentally responsible practices. " said Alisa Gravitz, Executive Director of Co-op America. “This is a great boost for consumer confidence."

More than 2,000 businesses are currently listed in Co-op America's Green Pages Online. To join, businesses must to submit an online form, complete an enrollment package, and meet the same criteria for social and environmental responsibility as members of the Co-op America Business Network.
