The Greenguard Environmental Institute has awarded its first certification for low-chemical emissions in the office furniture category to the Teknion Corporation.

The Greenguard Environmental Institute has awarded its first certification for low-chemical emissions in the office furniture category to the Teknion Corporation.

Teknion’s furniture was tested based on stringent indoor air quality standards. The major lines of Teknion furniture were proven to have minimal impact on the indoor environment according to requirements used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, State of Washington Indoor Air Quality Program, and the U.S. Green Building Council.

"For Teknion, it is an important achievement in our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability," said Teknion President and CEO, David Feldberg. The Teknion furniture certified by the Greenguard Environmental Institute includes:
  • T/O/S, Transit and Leverage panel systems
  • Expansion line of casegoods and systems
  • Ability line of mobile office furniture
  • Altos full-height architectural wall system
  • Chronicle and Ledger storage and filing lines
  • Aegis, Advocate, Amicus, Belize, Dharma, Harrington, Synopsis, t-3, Taiga, Vasari and Zone Seating
Greenguard tested and certified office furniture is a requirement for the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) Program. LEED-CI projects can earn Credit 4.5 in the Indoor Environmental Quality area for specifying certified furniture.

"The quality of our indoor air has been proven to negatively affect productivity and company resources," says Dr. Marilyn Black, founder of the Greenguard Environmental Institute. "We can, however, control indoor pollution and positively affect our work and living environments by using and specifying low emitting furniture and building materials."
