In the last two years, Sharp has become the only LCD TV manufacturer to receive the European Commission's Eco-Label 40 times for its energy-saving and environmentally friendly products.

The company won its first label in 2005 for its SH1E series of LCD televisions, and most recently was given four more awards for its LC-AD5E and LC-20SD5E televisions. Sharp remains the only manufacturer who has received the Eco-Label for television sets.

Altogether 40 Sharp LCD TVs are adorned with the label's flower symbol, which the European Commission uses to acknowledge a company's commitment to save energy and resources and to incorporate end-of-life recycling considerations into the manufcaturing process.

In addition to the EC's Eco-Label, Sharp has won a range of other international environmental awards, including the European Group for Energy Efficient Appliances energy label and the U.S. EPA's Energy Star award for energy-saving office and entertainment electronics equipment.

The requirements for the EU Eco-Label for television sets includes using less than one watt of electricity in standby mode, using low amounts of electricity when in operation, offering recommendations for environmentally conscious use of the product, being designed for higher durability and recyclability, and guaranteeing that replacement parts for the electronics will be available for at least seven years after the model is no longer in production.

More information on the program is available from the E.U.'s Eco-Label homepage.
