Fujitsu Unveils Tiny, Energy Efficient Tower Server

Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp. unveiled a tower server Wednesday it claims is the world's smallest, quietest and most energy-efficient.

The PRIMERGY TX120 was designed with small businesses and home offices that lack a dedicated server room in mind when it created the tower server.

"The PRIMERGY TX120 server represents a significant step forward in accommodating the real-world IT needs of small offices, an important and growing market for Fujitsu," said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing and servers for Fujitsu Computer Systems. "The PRIMERGY TX120 server is also the result of our ongoing corporatewide effort to reduce the carbon footprint of all our products."

PRIMERGY TX120 is about a third the size of a standard server and consumes a maximum of 163 watts, about the same amount of energy as a standard office light bulb. While running in its maximum configuration, the server consumes up to 40 percent less energy than tradtional servers.

Fujitsu estimates this will save about $100 per server per year in energy costs.

Measuring 4 inches wide, 13 inches high and 16 inches deep, the server produces 28 decibels during the idle state, and 31 decibels in full operation, about half of a conventional server. The server ships with PRIMERGY Server View Remote Management to allow off-site management.

The server uses a redesigned heat pipe air cooling system that allows users to choose vertical or horizontal server installation.

All heat producing components are strictly aligned along a linear heat pipe with two small temperature controlled fans located on either side.
