New Group to run LEED Accredited Professional Program

The recently-created Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) will take over operations of the LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) program early next year.

The GBCI was set up with support from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which runs the LEED AP program, to develop and administer credentialing programs aimed at improving green building practice.

The LEED AP program will transfer over to the GBCI in January 2008. The group will manage all aspects of the program, including exam development, registration and delivery, as well as oversee the development of the maintenance program for LEED AP credential holders.

The GBCI's website includes information for LEED APs and candidates, a directory of LEED APs and information on the LEED AP exam.

Current LEED APs will not be affected by the change. The USGBC will continue to maintain the LEED Green Building Rating System.
