GE Energy Joins SunPower for Calif. Solar Projects
As part of its ecomagination initiative, GE Energy Financial Services will finance five commercial and public solar power installations in California, including the largest single-roof system in the U.S.
As part of its ecomagination initiative, GE Energy Financial Services will finance five commercial and public solar power installations in California.
The GE unit will team with SunPower Corp. to implement the solar power systems, including a 2.3-megawatt system at the Toyota Parts Center in Ontario, Calif. that will be the largest single-roof system in the U.S. The five projects total about eight megawatts.
Under the terms of the deal, GE will finance and own the systems, which will be designed, built, operated and maintained by SunPower. Construction will begin in February and finish by the end of the year.
One project includes a single megawatt rooftop system at an HP research and development facility in San Diego. It includes a non-penetrating system that increases energy capture by tilting at a 10-degree angle.
The partners also will install a one-megawatt solar tracking system on top of a canopy structure in the parking lot of the Agilent Technologies campus in Santa Rosa.
A Lakeport correctional facility will receive about 85 percent of its electricity from ground-mounted solar systems at three sites. The sites, which will generate 2.4 megawatts, also will serve two wastewater treatment plants in Lakeport and Clearlake.
The Rancho California Water District in Murrieta will get a one-megawatt ground-mounted system covering 10 acres. The SunPower T20 Tracker will deliver as much as 30 percent more energy than traditional fixed-tilt ground systems because it follows the sun throughout the day.
