HP Declares Goal to Cut PC Energy Use

At this year's green-conscious Consumer Electronics Show, HP has announced it will cut the amount of energy consumed by its desktop and laptop PCs by 25 percent in the next few years.

HP has committed to meeting its energy-efficiency goal by 2010 though using more-efficient power supplies, lower-energy chipsets, and other technologies and processes.

The company has also announced it now leads the computing industry in the number of Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) gold-rated products with the release of more than two dozen gold and silver-rated PCs. HP was previously the first PC manufacturer to have a product rated gold by EPEAT.

The 2008 Consumer Electronics Show runs until Jan. 10.
