Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Carpet Testing Recognized as National Standard

The Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label carpet testing program has helped the group become a certification body for indoor air quality.

The Carpet and Rug Institute has been named a certification body for indoor air quality by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) for its carpet-testing programs.

The Institute runs the Green Label and Green Label Plus programs, which test and certify emissions of volatile organic compounds from carpets, carpet cushions and adhesives.

"Architects, builders and specifiers can have full confidence that Green Label and Green Label Plus carpet is a desirable, attractive green building product. They can rest assured they are purchasing the very lowest emitting products on the market," said Werner Braun, president of the Carpet and Rug Institute.

The Green Label programs comply with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) requirements for operating certification programs.

The Institute, the national trade association for the carpet and rug industry, created the Green Label program in 1992 and started the ANSI certification process in June 2006.
