What Does the Nation's Largest Rooftop Solar Installation Look Like?

O.K., this isn’t exactly new news, but noteworthy and fun to look at, if nothing else.

Back in July, FedEx Ground, a unit of FedEx that ships small packages, announced it was building what it hailed as the nation’s largest rooftop solar installation at its Woodbridge, N.J. distribution hub. Under an agreement with BP Solar, FedEx would buy the power generated by the system, while BP would install and operate it.

The 2.42-megawatt installation covers 3.3 acres of roof space with 12,400 solar panels. Depending on the weather, it satisfies up to 30 percent of the facility’s electricity needs.
