The Green Restaurant Association certified 20 Chicago restaurants for their efforts to reduce waste, energy and water use, improve recycling, and support organic farming.

The 20 restaurants, include big-name eateries such as Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill and Topolobampo restaurants, earned the Guaranteed Green seal last week, available through the Green Restaurant Association or Green Seal, which is the more expensive option of the two, Time Out Chicago reported.

Bayless' two restaurants and Helen Cameron's two Uncommon Ground locations earned three-star certification, requiring more than 175 points in seven categories: water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable furnishings and building materials, sustainable food, energy, disposables, and chemical and pollution reduction.

The remaining 16 restaurants scored 100 points or more to earn the two-star certification. Trailblazing restaurants can earn the four-star certification when they accumulate 300 points or more.
