Mark Vachon has been named vice president of ecomagination, which, since its creation five years ago, has invested $5 billion in research and development into cleaner and more efficient technologies, and brought in $70 billion in revenues. GE plans to pump an additional $10 billion into ecomagination research and development by 2015.

Vachon, 51, has been with GE for 28 years, and was most recently the president and CEO of GE Healthcare's America region, where he was a leader with the company's healthymagination initiative. He was previously president and CEO of GE Healthcare's Global Diagnostic Imaging organization, and held various positions in GE Appliances, GE Plastics-Europe, investor relations and NBC.

“With his record of business leadership across GE and forging new partnerships, Mark joins ecomagination ready to achieve our goal of solving big global challenges by providing clean energy solutions and driving economic growth,” GE chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt said in a statement.
